Two new special use ordinances have been passed by the City Council in preparation for removal of thorium from the Kerr-McGee factory site. The council has voted to modify its zoning code to allow for governmental testing of radioactive material in its manufacturing district. The council also granted a special use to the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety for a testing laboratory in the Bowling Green industrial center.
