Animal lovers in Italy had better round up the stray cats: Judges decided recently that it’s not a crime to capture strays and sell them for laboratory experiments.

Whales are a little safer now, thanks to the International Whaling Commission. Last week, the group declared 11 million square miles around Antarctica a sanctuary, meaning the whales can’t be hunted there. Scientists hope endangered species can now rebuild their numbers.
