The Family Ministries Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago wishes to thank the Tribune and Marya Smith for the excellent article on widowhood (WomanNews, June 19).

During this International Year of the Family, we are especially eager to let your readers know of the many services we offer to nourish and enrich family life. Fostering marriage itself, our Cana Conference this year celebrates 50 years of service to Chicago Catholics of every racial and ethnic group.

Parenting programs for both families and single parents are offered on a regular basis. In the last 50 years, over 750,000 couples have been married in the Archdiocese’s Catholic churches, an average of 15,000 marriages each year. Our goal is to minister to these couples throughout their entire life cycle.
