A recent night at Ravinia was supposed to be a listening experience. A wonderful Mozart program was to be presented. I’m sure those people who had tickets for the performance in the Ravinia theater enjoyed the music.

However, for many of us who had lawn tickets, it was a very different experience. Since the musicians were not in the pavilion, the Ravinia management personnel were nowhere in evidence. On one side of a piece of statuary were five 40-something couples talking loudly and laughing.

On the other side were three 20-something couples talking loudly-except during the intermission. Two of these males pretended to be ballet dancers during parts of the program, laughing loudly to accompany their own antics. What has happened to public civility and what has happened to Ravinia?
