Earnings on rise: Apple Computer Inc., which recorded steep losses a year ago because of a restructuring, Friday reported better-than-expected profits for the latest quarter. It cited strong sales of its new Power Macintosh machine for a 15 percent boost in revenues and the effect of lower costs associated with the restructuring. Apple said its net income for the third fiscal quarter was $138.1 million, or $1.16 a share, compared with a net loss of $188.3 million, or $1.63 a share, after restructuring charges a year earlier. Revenues rose to $2.15 billion from $1.9 billion.
