The U.S. Postal Service has marked the 25th anniversary of man’s landing on the moon with two stamps. The stamps are 29 cents and $9.95 (for express mail). Both depict an astronaut with the American flag on the moon’s surface, with the Earth in the background.

The 29-cent commemorative is sold only in a miniature sheet of 12 stamps, while the $9.95 stamp is sold individually or in panes of 20.

Australia has issued four commemoratives on its mythological monster called the bunyip, described as a ferocious creature that hangs around creeks and waterholes waiting to devour intruders.

Two stamps are valued at 45 cents each, another at 90 cents and the fourth stamp at $1.35.

Among the features attributed to the bunyip are a long, maned neck; a head like an emu; a body covered in fur or feathers; and a tail like a horse.

Mystic Stamp Co. of Camden, N.Y., has issued its 1994 spring-summer catalog, which is free on request. The 101-page catalog is perhaps the most useful for beginning collectors. All stamp illustrations are printed in color, historical information on stamps and their subjects is included and important dates are listed. Catalogs are available from Mystic Stamp Co. More than 17,000 price changes can be found in Volume 1 of the 1995 Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, which covers the United States, United Nations, Canada, Great Britain and British Commonwealth. The 1,325-page volume, which retails for $33, is available from dealers or Scott Publishing Co., Box 828, Sidney, Ohio 45365.

Australia has issued three commemoratives proclaiming 1994 as the International Year of the Family. The designs are the winning entries in a national competition among 8,000 primary schoolchildren. Each winner received a computer and $1,000 for their school. The denominations are 45 and 75 cents and $1.

Four commemoratives were issued recently by Norfolk Island, honoring early explorers who charted the Pacific Ocean. Honored are Vasco Nanez de Balboa, 5 cents; Ferdinand Magellan, 10 cents; Juan Sebastian Elcano, 20 cents; and William Dampier, $5.
