A 19-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison last week for raping and murdering a female utility worker who had gone to his home to restore gas service.

A packed courtroom erupted in applause when Cook County Circuit Judge Edward Fiala imposed the sentence on Paul Lee of 7646 S. Loomis St., who was convicted last month of raping and murdering Sandra Lee Chorba of Calumet City, a service technician for Peoples Gas Light and Coke Co.

Lee was not eligible for the death penalty because he was under the age of 18 at the time of the attack.
