William J. Riordan, 69, a World War II Navy veteran and retired state auditor, died Friday at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. Mr. Riordan was born in Chicago and lived in Evergreen Park and Cocoa Beach, Fla. During the war, he served aboard the USS Leedstown, participating in seven naval invasions in the South Pacific. Upon his return from the war, Mr. Riordan worked as an advertising sales representative for the Chicago Daily News. He then went into the car-leasing business before becoming an auditor with the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions. Mr. Riordan is survived by his wife, Florence; three sons, Edward, William and Michael; two daughters, Mary Shaughnessy and Joanne Miller; one sister; and 15 grandchildren. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 9525 S. Lawndale Ave., Evergreen Park.
