Works by artists of the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s will be featured in a nationally acclaimed art exhibit at a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Batavia’s Civic Center, at 327 W. Wilson St.

The exhibit, “The ’30s, ’40s and ’50s . . . A Mid-century Retrospective by the Chicago Society of Artists”, is being showcased by the Beacon Street Gallery and Performance of Geneva, in partnership with the Batavia Park District, the Roberta Campbell House and Uptown Hull House in Chicago.

The Grand Avenue Band will perform music from the era, and popular activities of the times are planned. They include a ’50s Hula Hoop contest, a jitterbug and ballroom dance contest, a ’40s taxi dance and storytelling.

To add to the fun, guests are encouraged to dress in costumes reflecting their favorite period.

Admission is free, with donations earmarked for Batavia’s Riverwalk project.

From Sept. 11 through Oct. 2, the art exhibit will be displayed at the Robert Campbell House at Geneva’s Kane County Events Center.

For more information, call Beacon Street Gallery and Performance Company at 232-2728, or the Batavia Park District at 879-5235.
