Marian Central d. Grant: Mary Domek and Dana Fortin had five kills apiece and Lee Anne Bohne totaled 14 assists and six service aces as Marian Central won its opener 15-2, 15-0.
Grayslake d. Wauconda: Julie Duchane tallied six kills and Stephanie DeGroot served 10 points in the deciding game of Grayslake’s 15-7, 11-15, 15-3 triumph.
Johnsburg d. Round Lake: Eva Ladenbruger served 17 points and Jamie Zoiss set 21 points as Johnsburg opened its Northwest Suburban season with a 13-15, 15-1, 15-9 decision.
Glenbrook South Tournament: Paul Ruschenski scored three goals to lead Stevenson (3-0) to a 4-1 victory over St. Viator.
“He’s one of the top players in the state,” said Patriots coach Mark Schartner.
In the first week of the season Stevenson, the Tribune’s sixth-ranked team, beat perennial soccer powers Fremd and Evanston. Now it has added No. 8 St. Viator to its list of victims.
Ron Schneider also scored for the Patriots, who have allowed only one goal all season. . . . A hat trick by Chris Bocci and two goals apiece from Troy Sphar and Matt Lange helped Lake Zurich (2-0) cruise to an 8-0 win over Waukegan. “I wanted us to pronounce ourselves,” Lake Zurich coach Scott Steib said. “And I think we did a good job of that today.”
Lake Forest tournament: David Hirasawa scored two goals to help Lake Forest (1-1) edge Highland Park 4-3.
Round Lake 4, Johnsburg 3: Maracio Quevada scored twice to lead Round Lake in its Northwest Suburban opener.
