Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Coach: Jim Wacker.

Record at school: 6-16 (.273), 5-11 (.313) Big 10, two years.

1993 record: 4-7 (.364), 3-5 (.375) Big 10, tie eighth place.

Returning starters: 14: offense 7, defense 5, punter-kicker 2.

Players to watch: DT Ed Hawthorne, RB Chris Darkins, WR Lewis Garrison.

Top newcomers: QB Cory Sauter, DL Lamanzer Williams.

Outlook: Wacker’s Gophers improved from 2-9 overall and 2-6 in the Big 10. Further improvement depends on a stronger defense than the one that yielded 417 yards and 31.2 points per game in 1993. If the offense matches last year’s 297.9 passing yards per game and cuts down on fumbles and penalties, the Gophers could improve again. However, the defense, especially inexperienced at linebacker, could drop Gophers to the bottom.
