If the heavens deliver clear skies Friday night, star gazers who join the Astronomical Society should be able to see Jupiter, Saturn and Venus.

“Those three planets will be up,” said Wildwood resident Grant Barlow, a member of the society.

“It’ll be a waxing crescent moon. We also then swing our telescopes around and look at a couple of other objects.” Planetary nebula, remnants of a supernova and the constellation Cygnus should be visible, he said.

The star watch, hosted by the society and sponsored by the Lake County Forest Preserve District, will be from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at the Lake County Museum in Lakewood Forest Preserve, on Illinois Highway 176 at Fairfield Road near Wauconda.

There is a $2 charge for adults, 75 cents for students.

A similar free program, hosted by the Skokie Valley Astronomers, will be conducted from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Ryerson Conservation Area, 21950 N. Riverwoods Rd., Deerfield.
