What summer would be complete without an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle? Now, before any of you wise guys start making “Last Action Hero” cracks, let me reassure you, “True Lies” is truly amazing. Using a budget roughly equal to the GNP of a developing country, “True Lies” packs in enough action sequences to raise the most jaded of eyebrows.
Schwarzenegger is a super-agent who is married to Jamie Lee Curtis. As part of his cover, Schwarzenegger has led his family to believe that he is just an everyday computer salesman, a ruse that he has managed to keep up during 15 years of marriage. Such an extreme stretch of “willing suspension of disbelief” might hamper other movies, but it pales in comparison to a motorcycle leaping from a rooftop, hugs and kisses beneath a mushroom cloud, and Schwarzenegger flying a Harrier jet into an office building.
The team of Schwarzenegger and James Cameron that hit pay dirt in the Terminator movies, does it again in “True Lies”. As expected, the film is special effects laden and will, undoubtedly, raise the stakes for action movies. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
