A 27-year-old man crossing a West Side street was struck and killed by a car running a red light Friday night, police said.

Reginald Jackson, of the 4600 block of West Fulton Street, was walking across Cicero Avenue near Washington Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. Friday when a northbound car ran the light and hit him, said Major Accidents Detective John O’Malley.

The car, described by witnesses as a 1977 to 1980 blue Chevrolet, drove east along an alley that runs parallel to Washington, O’Malley said.

O’Malley said witnesses gave a partial plate number of WL207.

Police were following up on tips Saturday, O’Malley said.

Jackson was crossing the street on a green light, and police have determined that the lights were working properly at the time of the accident, O’Malley said.

Jackson was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m. Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police asked anyone with information on the accident to call Major Accidents Investigations at 744-4824.
