A 117-acre development featuring single-family homes, townhouses and professional businesses on a site to be annexed to the village has been introduced to village trustees.
Whispering Pines Development Inc. is proposing the development at the northwest corner of Exchange and Sangamon Streets, wrapping around an existing antique shop.
Developer William Ralph said he envisions 50 to 75 townhouses behind a small commercial area along Exchange, with 161 single-family lots making up most of the development.
Wetlands will be preserved as will horse trails along the back of the property, Ralph said.
Trustee Michael Knuth said he would like to see the number of multifamily townhouses “minimized.”
The Village Board referred the concept to the Crete Plan Commission, which will meet Sept. 29.
Whispering Pines developed a 124-lot subdivision in Lockport last year.
