According to a Tribune article Sept. 15, President Clinton claimed that as a result of Al Gore’s reinventing government program, his administration has saved taxpayers $47 billion dollars over the last year. The savings, he claimed, were achieved primarily through the elimination of 71,000 federal jobs.

If the savings were achieved primarily by the job cuts, that means that the cuts amounted to more than 50 percent of the total savings or more than $23.5 billion dollars. Simple math would tell us that those 71,000 jobs would have to be valued at over $300,000 a piece.
