Recently the alderman for the 43rd Ward, Charles Bernardini, held a press conference on Lincoln Avenue announcing a crackdown on public drinking. According to the alderman, the problem “has been building over the last year” in the Lincoln Park area.
Why, then, has it taken the alderman so long to address this problem? It will be a year on Nov. 17 that Mayor Daley appointed the alderman to complete Edwin Eisendrath’s term. If the problem “has been building over the last year,” why has no action been taken prior to now? Could it be that the alderman is finally taking action because he is up for election in a few months?
The people of the 43rd Ward deserve an alderman who is committed to serving them throughout the term of office, not just during election time.
