As Illinois Republicans, we were generally elated at the results of the Nov. 8 elections. That is, until we read of Republican Senate President James “Pate” Philip’s plan to increase taxes under the guise of tax burden “shifts.” This is virtually the same Dawn Clark Netsch tax plan that was overwhelmingly rejected by Illinois voters.
That this one is supposed to be “revenue neutral” is an insult. We urge all those who voted Republican to call their state legislators to oppose this betrayal of our vote. We thought Bill Clinton didn’t get the message, but now we fear Philip didn’t get it either.
