Slayer’s songs are littered with sociopaths, and the music is an appropriate soundtrack: brutal rhythm guitars, squeal-like-a-pig solos, drum beats that bristle with fury, splitting beats into sixteenth and thirty-second notes. At times, the cacophony is exhilarating. But over the course of an entire album, the effect is numbing.
