The Securities and Exchange Commission voted to impose new reporting requirements on automated trading systems that enable institutional investors to trade securities off the stock exchanges and the Nasdaq stock market. Separately, the SEC adopted procedures that will shorten the amount of time that self-regulatory organizations, such as the National Association of Securities Dealers and the stock exchanges, have to wait before their rule proposals are approved by the SEC.
