I am proud to be a “McGovernick,” so congratulations to Bob Greene on his recent excellent column “McGovern on `traditional values.’ “

Greene’s incisive analysis and biographical review presents George McGovern devoted to patriotism (volunteering for service in the Air Corps after Pearl Harbor and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross), living family values (married to the same woman for 51 years), performing public service (member of the U. S. Senate), loving traditional values (Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and more), and espousing common sense and liberal programs and goals.

Although distorted and denigrated by Newt Gingrich “as the worst example of someone who does not believe in the American way of life,” McGovern is revealed as the superb model of an American who has lived and continues to live “traditional values.”
