A Wolves record crowd of 17,124 Friday night witnessed the first hat trick scored in a hockey game at the Horizon.
But it was Milwaukee left winger Gino Cavallini, who played parts of nine seasons in the NHL, who had three goals as the Admirals ripped the error-prone Wolves 5-2.
Center Lee Davidson scored both Wolves goals as they fell to 14-15-6.
Chicago trailed only 2-1 midway in the game and had ample scoring chances against Admirals goalie Bob Mason. But Milwaukee capitalized on Wolves mistakes for three goals in a 2:12 span of the second period to take a 5-1 lead. Cavallini scored two, one after a breakaway from his blue line.
Wendell Young replaced starting Wolves goalie Ray LeBlanc for the third period. The Wolves came on at times, but their only goal in the last 20 minutes was by Davidson at 1:26.
