Carlos Perez (3-0) allowed two runs in the first inning then one-hit the Marlins over the next six innings to remain unbeaten in three major-league starts.
The Expos snapped a four-game losing streak, while the Marlins had theirs extended to six.
Perez retired 17 of the 18 batters he faced after Terry Pendleton’s two-run single with one out in the first had given Florida a 2-0 lead.
“A lot of young guys would struggle after a 25-pitch first inning, but he just shook it off like nothing happened,” said Expos pitching coach Joe Kerrigan. “He cleaned them up.”
Mike Lansing’s leadoff homer in the third against David Weathers (1-1) snapped a 2-2 tie, and Roberto Kelly’s two-run single in the eighth gave him three RBIs and made it 5-2.
