Hoping to lead by example, former Olympians Evelyn Ashford and Willye White, as well as other athletes from around the country, have joined Athletes Against Drugs to offer teenagers alternatives to substance abuse.

This week, Ashford, White and other sports celebrities are in Chicago to attend a benefit celebrity reception and private golf tournament for Athletes Against Drugs. The reception on Sunday is open to the public and includes a buffet-style dinner and sports memorabilia raffle. It will be held at the 1st Division Museum at Cantigny, in Wheaton.

Bruce Jenner, Olympic decathlon gold medalist, will be the featured speaker.

Athletes Against Drugs works to eliminate substance abuse in youths aged 9 to 18.

Sunday’s reception will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $100 in advance, $150 at the door. For reservations, call 312-263-4618. The museum is at 1 S. 151 Winfield Rd., Wheaton.
