A 45-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the deaths of three children and one woman in a West Side fire last month confessed to arson Saturday, police said.

Harry T. McDonald, of 5941 W. North Ave., was caught shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday by police. The May 6 blaze was in the same apartment building where McDonald lived, said Grand Central Area Sgt. Robert Biebel.

As of Saturday evening, police had not charged McDonald formally, and said they were interviewing him to confirm a motive for the arson.

Authorities had issued a murder warrant for McDonald on May 17. McDonald is likely to be charged with four counts of murder for the deaths of building residents Erica, Edonyl and Eric West, ages 4, 3, and 2, respectively, and Vera Holmes, 40, police said.
