The Air Force Reserve Station at O’Hare International Airport is being put on the Military Base Closure List.
This is a concern to me, as it should be to all Illinois residents because the State of Illinois is known for receiving a significantly smaller return of federal tax dollars than most other states.
Just in the last few years, we have lost more jobs and federal revenue from the closures of Chanute Air Force Base, the Joliet Arsenal, the 12th Special Forces in Arlington Heights, the Glenview Naval Air Station and Ft. Sheridan, in addition to other military units in Illinois that are slated for closing or moving out of state.
In addition, as we reduce the reserve’s military presence, we also reduce money going to our state colleges from reservists who receive college assistance by participating in the military. Students from many low-income families could not attend college without such assistance.
Please call and write your representatives in Washington to join the Rep. Henry Hyde in demanding that this base be kept open.
