For the first time ever, General Motors’ Saturn beat out a pack of luxury cars to get the top ranking of the latest J.D. Power and Associates sales satisfaction index.

Saturn’s no-haggle pricing and low-key atmosphere earned it a record score of 160 in the index, which measures buyer satisfaction with their dealers and vehicles during the sales and delivery process.

GM’s newest nameplate was tops in each of the index’s three components-salesperson performance, delivery activities and initial vehicle condition.

Saturn beat out the top luxury makes, including Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus, which took first place in last year’s survey.

Saturn got 160 points, followed by Infiniti with 150; Cadillac and Lexus, both 149; Volvo 148; Mercedes-Benz, 147; Audi, 145; and Lincoln, 141. More than 90 percent of Saturn owners were described as “very satisfied” with the way their cars were sold and delivered.
