Nick J. Granaris, 17, of 1110 S. Busse Rd. was charged with cruelty to animals Wednesday for allegedly refusing to take his injured dog to a veterinarian, according to police. Police, who responded to a neighbor’s complaint that Granaris allegedly beats his dog with a broomstick, discovered the dog in the back yard limping with a paw raised. Granaris later told the officer the dog was injured after stepping on a piece of glass. When asked why he had not taken the dog to a vet, Granaris allegedly said that “the dog has been injured in the past and it would get better by itself,” police said. Granaris denied striking the dog with a broomstick.
