After last week’s emotional victory over Wheaton-Warrenville South, the question for the top-ranked Redhawks was not whether they would have a letdown, but how big the inevitable letdown would be.
Sure enough, Naperville Central (7-0, 5-0) committed six turnovers against Glenbard South (2-5, 0-5) Saturday, but its defense allowed only one first down, and the Redhawks prevailed 27-6.
Quarterback Tim Lavery (16 of 25, 251 yards) tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Cade and a 43-yarder to Todd Grotbeck.
Downers Grove North 57, Oak Park 33: Eric Walton chalked up 301 yards on only 12 carries and scored two touchdowns as Downers North (4-3, 3-2) overcame a huge performance by Oak Park’s Ricardo King in the West Suburban Silver. King finished with 342 yards on 26 carries.
Hinsdale South 14, Morton 0: Anthony Severino had 23 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns for Hinsdale (5-2, 3-1).
Montini 35, Marmion Military 13: Mike Russo ran for three short touchdowns and Andy Ogan hauled in long passes for the other two for Montini (7-0, 3-0).
