From experience, I know of one more railroad-crossing hazard. Occasionally, a lone railroad utility vehicle moves down the rails. Silently. Its presence may or may not bring down the gates.

Can it kill you? You bet. But if not, a close encounter with one can scare the life out of you!

Caution suggests that you form the habit of looking both ways before proceeding–even when the gates are up.
