Bibliophiles from across McHenry County will descend this weekend on the Woodstock Public Library, 414 W. Judd St., to pick up some cheap reads sold by the Friends of the Library.
The Friends’ annual used-book sale, its 10th, will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
According to library spokeswoman Pam Moorhouse, library boosters have been collecting books for the sale since May. Most of the inventory to be sold this weekend has been donated from private bookshelves, although many of the books on sale are being discarded by the library because they are out of date or seldom borrowed.
The books will be arranged by subject and age level, Moorhouse said. Prices on Saturday will be $1 for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks.
On Sunday, prices will drop to $2 a box.
Moorhouse said proceeds from past sales have bought a photocopier, a microfilm reader and furniture for the children’s department.
