Hamburger Hamlet plans bankruptcy: Hamburger Hamlet Restaurants Inc., a struggling restaurant chain, said it expects to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will immediately close 12 restaurants. The company said the bankruptcy plan — to be filed in California within the next two weeks — is designed to return it to profitability. The company will continue to operate 19 restaurants. Hamburger Hamlet has a restaurant on the Near North Side as well as in Wheaton and Vernon Hills; their status was not known.
