Subscribers to US Cable of Lake County are expected to see their bills reduced as a result of a new rate order issued last week by the County Board.
Subscribers will save about $4.44 a year under the new rates, which were agreed upon during negotiations with the cable firm, officials said.
Under the Cable TV Consumer Protection and Competition Act of 1992, local governments that file for certification with the Federal Communications Commission may regulate rates for basic cable service only.
Under the agreement reached between US Cable and the Lake County Board, equipment and installation rates also will be frozen during 1996.
The reductions affect about 14,000 subscribers in unincorporated Lake County and 51,000 in 11 municipalities, including Waukegan, Gurnee and Green Oaks.
“We are pleased that we are able to realize savings for our Lake County cable subscribers,” said Board Chairman Robert Depke (R-Gurnee). “These savings are substantial, especially when you look at the reduction we were able to negotiate for the installation of new service.”
