An Athol, Mass., man choked his ex-girlfriend in a fit of jealousy, then thought better of it and applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive her, police said.
The unidentified 16-year-old girl suffered bruises on her throat but no serious injuries.
Police on Wednesday searched for the boyfriend, 22-year-old Jose A. Perez. He was wanted on charges of attempted murder and domestic assault.
Perez allegedly went to the girl’s apartment early on Jan. 7 and entered her bedroom. She awoke to find his hands at her throat, then passed out, police.
When she regained consciousness, Perez was doing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, police said. It was not clear whether he revived her or she came to on her own.
Two days earlier, police said, Perez flew into a rage when he saw another man leaving the girl’s apartment. Perez allegedly threatened the man with a 4-foot pipe and smashed his windshield.
Perez was charged with assault and destruction of property and was released without bail.
