The Village Board moved Thursday night toward creating a Community and Economic Development Commission to retain and revitalize businesses and attract new business. If it gets final approval, the commission would be active the next two years.

The nine-member commission would be appointed by village trustees and would include business leaders and entrepreneurs, and officials from the Park District, Elgin-based School District 46 and village staff.
