In the wake of the retirement of a veteran police officer, the Darien department has a rookie and a new sergeant.
William Greenaberg, 25, was appointed Jan. 11 to fill the vacancy. He is enrolled in the 10-week basic-training program at the College of DuPage.
David Skala, with the department since January 1982, has been promoted to sergeant.
