I share Bob Greene’s lament (Jan. 21) that a college education is no longer a guarantee of civility in language or behavior. However, today’s institutions of higher learning are no longer the bastions of common decency they once were.

I recently went back to school for a master’s degree after having worked for 20 years. The school I chose is a church-supported school here in Chicago. One of my professors, a Ph.D. in English, was the most foul-mouthed person–in class–that I have ever encountered. Every other sentence out of his mouth contained an obscenity, and I felt abused and violated.

Someone has to have the courage to say “Enough! Stop!” Maybe columns such as Mr. Greene’s are a beginning.
