Sure, the threat of a $500 fine may make some Crystal Lake train commuters think twice about crossing the tracks in front of an oncoming train, but there must be a better solution.

At the Crystal Lake train station, the majority of the parking is south of the tracks, yet the morning inbound trains arrive on the north track, forcing commuters to cross the tracks. Can’t the morning trains be changed to board on the south track, obviating the need to cross the tracks in those groggy morning moments?

I understand that this strategy may not be feasible at all train stations, due to current infrastructure limitations. However, let’s put the pressure where it belongs–on the railroads and not on the commuters.
