Never too late: Women who fear pregnancy after having unprotected sex can call the Emergency Contraception Hotline for information on getting postcoital contraceptives, says Marie Bass, project director of the Reproductive Health Technologies Project, a group in Washington that sponsors the month-old hot line. Anyone calling 800-584-9911 will receive the names and phone numbers of three places willing and licensed to provide emergency contraception. “Don’t confuse abortion drugs with emergency contraception,” says Bass. “We advocate standard contraceptives that are already available and can be used in the first three days after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. It’s an important distinction.”
