WTTW-Ch. 11 recently ended yet another pledge week. Why did I not contribute? Because, although some of the station’s programming is up to the higher standard expected of it, too much of its precious air time is devoted to fluff I’d pay to get rid of. Ballroom dancing competitions! Barney! Concerts of empty “New Age music” by John Tesh and Yanni! And the classic films it used to show were replaced years ago by standard (or substandard) fare–“Good Neighbor Sam,” for example. Channel 11 was supposed to give us an alternative to this kind of pap.
Want our contributions, Channel 11? Stop the entertainment and the dumbing-down. We can get bad entertainment on the commercial stations. At least they don’t ask us to reward them with a check!
