If Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th) wants to outlaw sports based on their injury risk (“No place for `Ultimate Fighting,’ ” Voice, March 19), why isn’t he targeting football (especially at the high school level), hockey, boxing, auto racing, even diving?

The greatest appeal of “Ultimate Fighting” is its lack of hypocrisy. It doesn’t present overpaid, overpampered “supermacho” stars who can’t compete without helmets, pads and other protective gear or who get free throws every few seconds because someone touches them.

“Ultimate Fighting” says, “Hey, you think you’re mentally and physically tough and have athletic strength and stamina? Prove it!” And then we see who can walk the walk in a most fundamental way.

In this politically correct era of hypercaution, that’s exhilarating!
