A 5-year-old boy was killed and an 11-year-old boy injured after they were hit by a car on the West Side Friday, police said.
Brandon Peterson, of the 2500 block of West Adams Street, was pronounced dead at Cook County Hospital. Anthony Mathis, 11, was in fair condition in Cook County Hospital.
Charges were pending against a 44-year-old West Side man who reportedly tried to leave the accident scene, but was held by witnesses until police arrived, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 1 p.m. in the 2500 block of West Jackson Boulevard, police said.
