The village’s engineering and public works committee pedaled forward this week on two projects that will add bikeways linking up to other trails in the area.

Under the committee’s recommendation, a quarter-mile length of bikepath costing $31,250 will connect a Meacham Road trail with the Park District’s new playing field at Schaumburg Road and Martingale Road.

Constructing that path will coincide with another project that the same company, Chicagoland Paving Inc. of Carpentersville, will return to complete along Plum Grove Road from the Public Works Building down to Wise Road. That path could not be finished last year due to the weather.

In related action, the committee approved increasing the price for another contract to fund part of the cost for redesigning the existing bikeway along Woodfield Road under the Illinois Highway 53 overpass.

Senior Civil Engineer Scott Kasper said the Woodfield Road bikeway is being redone to give cyclists a safer ride away from vehicles at the busy intersection near Woodfield Mall.
