Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Last month the Illinois Wesleyan basketball team went to the Division III Final Four. The Titans were a good, positive story. Yet there was no mention of them in the Tribune.

Then I noticed the Ronnie Fields story. Fields, who hasn’t been able to reach the required ACT score to get into a major university, is Illinois’ Mr. Basketball.

But at a time when the educational institutions are getting hammered because youngsters are not earning a good education, Ronnie Fields is heralded as an example. By stark contrast, incoming freshmen at Illinois Wesleyan have a mean average ACT score of 27.

Somehow, the important things are being missed.
