After accepting a $15,000 check from the McHenry Area Jaycees to finance this year’s 4th of July fireworks–which will be set off on July 6–the City Council on Wednesday voted approval of the daylong program to be conducted in Petersen Park.
Jaycee spokesman Randy Christensen said the July 6 daytime activities will include in-line skating, a dunk tank, entertainment vendors and the sale of raffle tickets for a Las Vegas vacation.
The fireworks are to begin at 9:15 p.m. and be provided by Melrose Pyrotronics, the company that does fireworks for the Chicago White Sox, Christensen said.
Jaycee Kevin Kutz said this year’s fireworks display will be electronically fired and coordinated to music. The city is co-sponsoring the event.
“We appreciate the check . . . and we appreciate the fact that the Jaycees are helping bring the fireworks to McHenry,” Mayor Steve Cuda said.
Parks Director Pete Merkel praised the Jaycees for their efforts in screening bidders to put on the show.
“They did a real job,” Merkel said. “I think it will be an excellent show.”
