The Plan Commission has decided to move forward more quickly in the review of its revised land-use proposal, setting June 12 as the tentative date for a public hearing.
John McIntyre, economic development coordinator, said the township cannot afford to wait to address growth issues. A public hearing in June, instead of later in the summer as had been suggested, would give the commission more time to respond to residents’ input, he said.
“We’d have their comments on record and we could be adjusting the land-use plan as we feel their comments warrant,” McIntyre said.
The proposal would be turned over to the Township Board, which would decide whether to ask voters their preference on industrial development.
The issue came to the fore when some residents opposed a proposed industrial development near the proposed Interstate Highway 355 exchange.
The land-use plan charts where residential, commercial, and industrial development would be allowed. The township’s current plan is 5 years old.
