Don McNeill, 88, the host from 1933 to 1968 of the “Don McNeill Breakfast Club” on ABC radio, had a voice that has been described as familiar to America as “birds chirping, toasters popping, eggs sizzling and coffee perking.”
A resident of Winnetka for more than 50 years, he died Tuesday in Evanston Hospital after a short illness.
“Good morning, Breakfast Clubbers,” was the congenial, friendly and corny greeting people who faithfully tuned into the show every morning.
A native of Galena, Ill., Mr. McNeill was raised in Sheboygan, Wis., and graduated from the journalism college of Marquette University in 1929.
