Elementary School District 26’s tentative budget proposal for the 1997 fiscal year includes a $1.2 million expenditure for a 50-acre potential school site.
The Board of Education has filed eminent domain proceedings against Town & Country Homes, owners of the parcel, which is located outside the village boundaries.
The parcel is part of a larger one that Town & County wants to use for the development of a residential subdivision, but the developer has not received approval for the project from either the Cary Village Board or McHenry County officials.
The school board’s spending plan includes funds for the acquisition of that land, the district’s business manager, Charles Oberly, told the board Monday.
All of the district’s five schools are at or above capacity. This past academic year an additional 125 students enrolled in the district’s schools, according to District Supt. Timothy Kelly.
“That will probably be the last property we will need to buy for this community,” said board member Ted Wagner.
