There has been a lot of talk about increasing the minimum wage in recent days. I run a small manufacturing business in Chicago, and I would like to offer health care to my employees. But I run a labor-intensive operation and just cannot offer such insurance, what with the current rates and volatility. We would very much like to offer this benefit, but cannot.
All increasing the minimum wage will do is increase my tax burden. Maybe that is what they are after.
