National, state, and local elections are less than four months away, and if past turnouts are any indication, slightly more than half of all eligible voters will show up to cast their ballots.
That means that roughly 50 percent of the American adult population will be exercising the right not to vote for whatever reason.
However, if you’re one of those 50-percenters who do care about the vote, you might want to take a look at a state-sponsored exhibit going on display later this week commemorating the 75th anniversary of the enactment of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Using documents and photographs, the exhibit that is touring the state describes the 40-plus year fight waged by women to be allowed to vote, a right they considered vital at the time.
The display runs from Wednesday through July 27 at the Indian Prairie Library, 401 Plainfield Rd., Darien. The library is open 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
